Understanding and Evaluating Mechanical Properties
The strength and fracture toughness of materials provide key insight into how they will perform in operation. Strength can tell you how much load a component can hold, but the toughness tells what kind of overloading it can take, and how well it resists cracking. Mechanical testing can evaluate all of these critical properties to help you engineer materials and structures that are safe for long-term service.
Hardness Testing
Hardness testing is fast, simple way to evaluate mechanical properties. We provide all the common test methods per ASTM standards, including brinell, vickers, knoop, and Rockwell hardness testing, tensile, charpy, fracture toughness, fatigue, creep, and more. We also perform micro-hardness and nano-hardness testing for the smallest samples.
Tensile Testing
Tensile testing is the next fastest method for evaluating mechanical properties. Tensile tests curves can tell you a lot about the ductility and toughness of a sample.
Tensile Testing
Pull things until they break? Sounds easy, but our experts have the experience to help you accurately testing materials of every size and type to make sure they will work as expected.
Charpy Impact Testing
Charpy impact testing is a fast way to evaluate the dynamic impact toughness of materials, a measure of how well a sample absorbs a rapid loading condition (in this case, it’s a heavy hammer striking the sample!)
Fracture Toughness Testing
In many cases more sophisticated hardness testing is necessary, such as CTOD or similar tests to evaluate the K1C fracture toughness. US Corrosion is a leader in accelerated fracture toughness testing to provide results in hours or day!
